" 'Odes' was recorded over the period of a year in Akron, Ohio, while I was living there. The impact of losing Letha didn’t fully hit me until I was away from North Carolina, and I had to find ways of channeling my feelings so that I wouldn’t become completely overwhelmed. I found that recording these simple, meditative pieces was a far more effective and succinct way of dealing with the loss than attempting to write any kind of lyric. They were mostly recorded on a partially working 4 track, though some were recorded on a karaoke machine that had very good reverb. "
